Why Schooling Needs to Change
The world is changing, yet traditional schooling continue to use the same teaching and learning methods developed two centuries ago. Education is evolving, but much of that evolution cannot be found in traditional classrooms. This is why schooling needs to change.
Traditional Schooling Prepares your Kids for a World that no Longer Exists
As parents, traditional education systems seem to be a safe, solid option for our children. After all, they prepared you successfully for the world you live in today, right? Wrong. These educational systems are becoming increasingly detached from the real-life needs of the current world and its workforce. They were designed to program people to fit into a conventional world.
The problem is that this conventional world has been disrupted by technology, and simply no longer exists. The average job role today requires several 21st century hard and soft skill sets that are not even hinted at in the classroom. For example, today’s accountants need significant technical, and even programming, skills. A salesperson now needs to offer more than a good pitch but, they also need a good understanding of how to manage complex CRM software.
Disruption is moving the world with a technical speed that traditional organizations simply cannot catch up with because of how they are designed.
Not much Learning Happens in the Race to the Highest Grade
While such radical change is happening outside, we switch to the insides of our classrooms. Where the goal our children are encouraged towards, is not problem-solving or self-improvement, but earning the highest grades. There are very few hands-on activities and practical learning courses, except in the STEM classes. Brain development activities for kids look more like cramming and holding verbatim information in their heads long enough to write exams.

The Current Schooling System no longer Satisfies the need of the Workplace
Just a few decades ago, people went to school, got their degrees, and went straight to the workforce. They were fully qualified for their industries and had all the needed skills from their traditional education. Today, what kids learn in school represents only a fraction of the skills they need to get an entry-level job. In fact, fewer organizations seem to care about a traditional BSc or MSc degree. What is most important, is that you have practical skills to execute the tasks given to you. This is why STEAM education for kids is becoming increasingly important.
Why your Kids need STEAM Education, for now, and for the future
STEAM means the traditional STEM plus the arts – humanities, language arts, visual arts, design, and the new media. Children are taught everything from mental math, coding, and robotics, to ethical use of the media. This not only helps with brain development but also teaches them practical applicable skills that will be useful in their futures. Regardless of their chosen career paths.
The best reason for STEAM education so far is that it does not prepare your child for a definite future. Instead, it prepares your child for disruption. For the resolution and desire to constantly learn, create, and overall seek growth.
Finally
It’s important to note that schooling is already changing. These changes haven’t hit the classrooms significantly, but they’re happening everywhere. The average pre-teen or teenager today is a more experienced videographer and video editor than the average adult. This is because they’ve had practical reasons, such as Instagram and Tik-Tok, to learn how to create and edit videos.
STEAM education helps children achieve these same results in a better structured and productive way. In these early formative years, give your children the best growing experiences. Instead of relying on traditional educational systems, encourage/support your kids towards STEAM education.
